Smart Urinary Incontinence Monitoring

SUIM is a continuous patient-monitoring IoT device targeted at patients suffering from urinary
incontinence. Using custom-made sensor pads, it is capable of detecting urine leakage at small
quantities and notifying the patient. The device can also log body temperature and position,
along with levels of wetness for later analysis.
One of the biggest challenges was to differentiate between normal sweat and urine leakage to
avoid false alarms, a challenge that SUIM has overcome with success.

Features

  • Urine leakage detection
  • Body temperature
  • 9DoF IMU
  • BLE 4.0
  • Ultra low power (using one button cell)
  • Data logging

Client App

An accompanying Android app was developed to configure and communicate with the device
peripheral using a custom GATT profile. The app is also responsible for uploading the acquired
data to the cloud for logging and analysis purposes.
Here is a video I made a while back as a proof of concept of the beta version.
